Liebster Award

LIEBSTER

I am so incredibly excited to have been nominated by Sahar from DIY in a Dorm for the Liebster Award. To be honest, I was very flattered, but had no idea what this award was about… I mean I just started this blog! Upon a little digging and stumbling upon great information from  Lorraine Reguly, I’ve found out is that the award is to recognize new blogs for their content and to welcome them to the blogosphere.

~What a way to be welcomed! ~

The rules are pretty simple:

  • Link back to the person who nominated you.
  • List 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Answer the questions given to you by the nominator.
  • Nominate up to 11 other bloggers with less than 200 followers.
  • Create 11 questions for the nominees.
  • Notify all nominees via social media/blogs

Random facts about me:

  1. I have moved to a different ‘home’ every summer since I graduated from high school. This is currently the longest that I have stayed in one accommodation.
  2. I have a deep love for Young Adult/Fantasy fiction… Just love it.
  3. I can touch my nose with my tongue.
  4. I am probably one of the most inflexible people on the planet. I can’t even come close to touching my toes.
  5. My favorite thing to teach is genetic biology.
  6. I wear my running watch every day and with every outfit.
  7. I put forth a good effort on many, many, many occasions to learn the guitar, but finally put it aside for the ukulele instead.
  8. I am fascinated by gals that are wiz-kids at makeup application. I for one am quite happy with mascara and even that sometimes proves to be a challenge.
  9. Litter drives me crazy.
  10. I taught myself to whistle when I was younger by forming an ‘O’ with my lips and blowing air in and out until it worked.
  11. When I meditate I see the color purple. Every time.

Enough random facts, now onto the questions.

Sahar asked:

  1. What’s your favorite way to begin the day?
My all time favorite way to begin the day is with a run. But that hasn’t happened in quite awhile. These days I quite enjoy a good cup of coffee, which is hard to come by in Thailand.
  2. A book/movie you could read/watch over and over again?
Harry Potter. Need I say more?
  3. Tell us about your blog and how it got started.
The blog actually started a few years ago while I was in college and was a mish-mash of different ideas. There really wasn’t a focus to it. After living in Thailand, I realized that there are things I wish I had known about before teaching here. I come from a teaching background so it was really easy to adjust, but what of all those who don’t? I wanted to have an informational teaching blog that also combined my other two loves: traveling and being eco-friendly. Lucky for me, my current job allows me to do both.
  4. How do you manage to take out time from your everyday routine for the blog?
I have been really busy as of late. Just last month I taught a TESOL course and just started a new semester at my school. Now that things are starting to settle down again, I actually have time in between classes at school to write a little bit. I love crafting and designing things so it’s a breeze to make the graphics and organize photos when at home.
  5. If you could time travel what year would you go to and why?
There are so many times that I would travel to but if I had to narrow it down, I would shoot for the roaring 20’s or the 1970’s both because of the music and fashion… mainly the music.
  6. Life motto?
I have two: ‘There are no coincidences.’ and ‘There are no problems, only solutions.’
  7. What is on top of your bucket list?
The thing that I most want to do but have very limited experience in is extended trip backpacking. I’m not talking going from country to country because I get to do that already! I’m talking backcountry backpacking – anywhere. One trip I would love to do is the Pacific Crest Trail in America.
  8. Favorite holiday destination?
    Isla Mujeres, Mexico
  9. What is a perfect Sunday like for you?
Drawing. Painting. Reading. Mainly just being creative.
  10. Celebrity crush?
Johnny Depp. Forever and always, Johnny Depp.
  11. Which ‘Friends’ character are you?
    Monica – competitive, perfectionistic, organized… That’s me.

Blog Nominations:

I haven’t had the opportunity to experience too many new blogs, but there are a few people that I’ve come across in my personal life that have created some pretty great blogs. I realize that all of these are mainly writers only but I truly do love a good story!

Room 10 – I met Anna back in high school and wish I would have spent more time with her while I lived in Oak Harbor because she is a wonderful writer. She has upped the ante to poetry and acting at the local theatre in town. I can’t wait to go to one of your poetry nights when I’m back in America!

Traveling Runner – This awesome lady I got the pleasure of meeting and calling my best friend in college. Kelsey’s passion for running is contagious and her stories about her running in Spain are just as inspiring. She had some pretty awesome experiences while living and working as an au pair.

Venture On – I met Harrison while doing my TESOL course in Hua Hin. He is an absolute inspiration. His outlook on life is never anything but positive. Even when waterfalls of sweat fell from his elbows after a long day he still had a smile on his face. He’s an amazing teacher and one awesome friend and good thing he teaches in a classroom with AC now.

James Atticus Levin – This is a self titled blog from a wonderful soul that I had the opportunity to teach when I taught TESOL. He is truly open to any new experiences and is one of those people that take suggestions and immediately put them into practice with fantastic results. His blog is about his life and travels. Did I forget to mention he is a phenomenal photographer? Yea… he’s that too.

100 Days… – Now this is the first blog on here of someone that I don’t personally know. But I enjoy the message of the blog. This gal has dedicated herself to writing a blog post every day for 100 days as a result of a school assignment. Not sure of how many followers she has, but she sure does deserve the kudos. Keep it up!

Jai Guy Travels – This last one might be a little bias as this is the Fellas blog, but a good read nonetheless. He is a fantastic writer and musician that simply knows how to craft a good story – whether with words or songs. Check out his travel recommendations and other memoirs of our travels.
